What rebates are available?
Medicare and Private Health Rebates are available.
Exercise physiology sessions may be eligible for rebates from Medicare and private health insurance. The amount of the rebate depends on the level of cover and the health insurance provider.
Medicare

You may be eligible for a rebate of up to $58.30 per session, for a maximum of five sessions per year.

You may be eligible for an additional referral if you have type 2 diabetes.

You can get a referral from your doctor.
Private health insurance

You may be eligible for a rebate if your cover includes exercise physiology services.

You don't need a referral to claim a private health consultation.

You can claim for on-the-spot consultations, home visits, and telehealth consults.

You can only claim rebates for sessions provided by ESSA Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs).
Eligibility

The treatment must aim to prevent, delay, or improve a chronic disease or injury.

Insurers don't pay for general fitness programs.
